Secretary John:   Had Paul introduced Robert De La Campa the training officer for the EC Police Dept.

4-Way Test Presentation:    Lee led the 4-Way Test recital

Announcements:

Þ    Frank our program chair announced the speaker team captains for July – Lee and for August – Michael Dougherty

Þ    Sonya with the Genie Stone invited anyone interested in learning more about the notion of long term car to attend a workshop this Saturday at 2p at El Cerrito Royale

Þ    Kathleen reminded everyone to make the updates on the Club Roster and check it off of the “dummy” she sends around.  If she calls you may find it a cranky call because you did not make the corrections at Rotary

Þ    Marty gave us the update on Bowl-a-thon funds.  It is $1150

Þ    Karen acknowledged and thanked everyone who participated in running the GGF concession stand on Mother’s day.

Happy dollars:   Mark S is happy about the Chamber party on May 25th at Playland Not At the Beach in El Cerrito.  Mark is sad that the owner and founder of Play Not at the Beach has stage 4 cancer and Mark encouraged us all to come to honor him and enjoy the event.  Ilhami is happy about working with Kanti at the GGF concession stand.  Kanti is happy about the fun he had at GGF and training Ilhami to serve the beer.  Lee had a story he shared about serving beer at one of the triple crown venues and when they shut it down they lost half of their patrons, this year they will be serving $1 beer again.  Tracy is happy about her successful surgery.

Sgt at Arms Nancy:   Did a scavenger hunt and asked for somewhat weird things.

Today’s Program:

Dr John introduced Podiatrist Dr. Tony Poggio to begin the presentation on keeping your feet healthy.  Tony purchased John’s practice when he retired.  Tony began the presentation by providing the four factors involved in Foot problems:

1.     Vascular issues

2.     Neurological (nerver) issues

3.     Dermatological issues

4.     Muscular/skeletal problems

5.     Diabetes issues

Tony used the above outline to give us an explanation of what types o things he treats for his patients and the causes of the ailment.  He explained the role of pain in notifying the patient of the need to seek help.  He provided an understanding of the various symptoms of fungus, hammer toe, bunions, etc.  He also gave a good summary of the debilitating effects of Diabetes on ones feet and how the treatment of the disease can result in amputation of ones legs.

Dr. John gave us a nice summary and a handout of the types of footwear one can get choose for specific applications.  This was a very good commonsense presentation on foot care.  Thanks Drs John and Tony.
