Today’s Program:

Gary B introduced today’s program, The 4-Way Test Speech Contest.  Today our three presenters included:  Emily Hayashi Grove, Clara Lengacher, and Qi Qi Tang.  They each had a seven minute presentation on a topic that they related to the 4-Way Test.   Gary shared the ground rules with everyone and introduced our judges for today.  Lead judge Nancy McCarthy along with Frank and Sonya.

Emily was the first to present and spoke on the subject of commitment.  She gave examples of how failing to keep ones commitments was not consistent with the 4-Way Test.

Qi  Qi spoke next and her topic of anorexia was used as an example of a physical and mental disease that required the use of the 4-Way Test for both the individual with the affliction to address getting help and for other to understand the impact of the victim.

Clara gave her presentation last and her subject of lack of music programs in schools was related to the 4-Way Test to demonstrate the value of music program and the multiple failures of the 4-Way Test that are created by reducing or eliminating music program.

The judges deliberated to determine who would be declared the winner.  This is one of the most difficult things we do because all members of our Interact Club are winners.   It was determined that Emily won and the other two were a very close second.  Clara, Emily and Qi Qi were then awarded a gift bond from the Mechanics Bank.  Emily was presented a certificate indicating her win of the event by Gary Buffon.

The Rotarians gave a round of applause for our guests and they also received many acknowledgements from the Rotarians.   All in all this was a very good program and one I consider to be the most motivating and enjoyable of each Rotary year.  It was nice to have a great turnout of Rotarians for this meeting.  Thank you!!
