Þ    Lee announced a special double your money offer for contributions to the Rotary Foundation in November. You can get a matching amount for your 100 to 500 dollar contribution and it will be matched dollar for dollar so you double your contribution value. What a great time to get a PHF for your spouse, son or daughter or granddaughter (which is what I am doing) Arrive at the meeting early and see Lee so you take advantage of this opportunity

Happy dollars:   Marty is happy there are only two weeks until his trip to Peru. Dr. John is happy his son-in-law got a job. Carl is happy that on Saturday there will be a Hands On Universe workshop with ten teachers and twenty students and three of our Interact members on our ongoing project. Michael Chang had a happy dollar for Karen’s help on some marketing.

Sgt at Arms Nancy:  Today was riddle day and Nancy stumped several Rotarians: Jack, Charlie, Gary B, Don and Joe.

Today’s Program:
Gary A introduced Fred Hayden a friend and geologist and playwright to tell us about his experience and success of being a playwright the past 45 years. Fred told his story as a 4½ acts. The first act being the 1960s when he learned the craft by writing a book and writing his first successful play entitled “Change Over.”  The second act is the 1970s he identified as Surviving. In that decade he had two successful plays and got a degree in geology so he would have a day job. He also married and began raising a family. Act three was the progressing period in which he had five successful plays and even had a production in New York. Act four is now the writing and marketing period where he is adding new material and getting some of his existing material into production.
Fred shared with us some of the more interesting experiences he had of writing plays for puppet theatre. Because puppets only have once expression the writing is centered more around that story than in dramatic acting with people. This was a very interesting presentation that gave us some insight into this interesting profession. Thank you Gary for having Fred share his experiences with us.

Today’s Lottery Winner:   Ilhami had his ticket pulled and selected a red marble winning ten dollars and a bottle of win. Next week the pot is $110.

Thought for Week:
Mere longevity is a good thing for those who watch Life from the side lines. For those who play the game, an hour may be a year, a single day's work an achievement for eternity.
