Past President Jim welcomed us to the friendly El Cerrito Rotary Club. Joe Conwill led the pledge and John F gave us a thought for the day.

Introduction of guests and Visiting Rotarians: Today our guest was our Russian exchange student, Ksusha.

Announcements:
Nobuko gave Mike G’s address so we know where to go for the potluck on the 18th. The address is 747 Gelston Place in El Cerrito. Mike’s phone # is 719-3456. Be sure and sign up for this pot luck and have some fun with your fellow Rotarians at a Rotarian’s home.

Happy dollars: Don had $5 for the great service he received on his car from Marty.

Sgt at Arms: John F did a quiz of some eleven questions. The first ten were to get us warmed up and the 11th helped us with the 4-Way Test and paying a buck for the fun and games.

Today’s Program:
Marty introduced Marissa LaMagna who owns East Bay Green Businessses Tour to speak to us about the ways she showcases the green businesses in the East Bay.

Marissa LaMagna telling us about her Green Tours

Marissa shared with us her path that led her to create the tours of green businesses. She reminded us of the benefits of the green business community. She also told us about the Brower Center in Berkeley that is in the final stages of construction and will house both environmental groups and green businesses. The center is named after David Brower who pioneered a lot of the environmental ideals that we see in practice today. We were shown many examples of the green businesses in our area. In addition, there are various training programs to help young people get involved in careers that involve alternative energy (especially solar) and other areas that provide opportunities. One of the programs Marissa's tour company offers is to take young people around and show them the various opportunities that exist in the green business sector.

This was an interesting program that showed what is going on green business arena.

Today’s Lottery Winner: Charlie had his ticket pulled for a chance at winning the pot and selected cats-eye marble winning the bottle of wine. Next Week the pot is worth $180.

Interact Club Corner by Gary Buffon – Rotary Advisor to Interact:
The club is getting ready for the remainder of the year. The new board members are getting up to speed and the selection of officers is being conducted. I have invited the board members to attend the meeting next week when I give a presentation on the history and future of our Interact Club

Thought for Week:
Conservation is ethically sound. It is rooted in our love of the land, our respect for the rights of others, our devotion to the rule of law.
