Today’s Program:
Gary B introduced today’s 4-Way Test Speech program in which Cynthia Wong, Jessica Tran and Rebecca Phuong being the speakers. Today our speech judges included Andy, Karen, and Nobuko.

The first speaker was Cynthia who related the 4-Way Test to the SAT testing that takes place for all high school students who want to attend college. He read the defined goals of the SAT and compared these goals with each of the 4-Way Test principles. After comparing them she concluded that the SAT testing was inconsistent with the 4-Way Test

Rebecca share how the 4-Way Test relates to people with disabilities

Our second speaker, Rebecca, focused on how the achievement of the disabled people in the world and specifically in our country relate to the 4-Way Test. She used her experience of the theatre presentation for the ECHS open house as a way to relate her experience of a person who had a disability.  This individual was one of the happiest and most dedicated performer was a disabled individual. Through this experience she discussed how the 4-Way test applied to the efforts of this student and theatre performer.

Jessica relates how stress in High School relates to the 4-Way Test

Jessica selected as her subject the issue of stress in high school for students to compare with the 4-Way Test. She evaluated each element of the 4-Way Test and compared it with the stress of managing priorities, mountains of homework, tight deadlines for assignments, extra curricular activities and other life enhancing activities such as music lessons and cultural activities.

Each of the presentations was informative, interesting and delivered very well which added to the difficulty for today’s judges. After lengthy deliberation the judges chose Jessica as the winner today. The judges were so impressed with each speaker they indicated they thought this year contestants were the best we have ever had.

Today’s Lottery Winner: Jim had his ticket pulled (actually he and Mike had traded tickets so Mike was not sure that was a good idea, Jim was) for a chance at winning the pot and selected cats-eye marble winning the Peets coffee.  Next Week the pot is worth $160.
