Week of February 26th

President Jack welcomed us to the friendly El Cerrito Rotary Club.  Sil led the flag salute and Pres Jack provided a thought for the day.

Introduction of guests and Visiting Rotarians: Sec John introduced Keith Wilson, guest of Pres Jack.

Announcements:
  • Pres Jack acknowledged Lee, Kevin, Mark S and Charlie for beating back health issues and returning to Rotary

  • John F reminded everyone to sign Glenn Davis’ birthday card. Glenn is either 92 or 93

  • Mark F had his back surgery and is home working his way through the after surgery issues. A card was circulated so he will know we are thinking of him

  • Pres Elect Tracy is in Florida with her sister who has advanced cancer and is not expected to live too much longer. Our prayers are with Tracy.

Happy dollars:  Jane is $5 happy for Mark S taking over for her assignment at GGFs. Kevin is happy for Kathleen’s effort to incorporate his architect business. John F is happy that Lee is back at Rotary and he also reminded us he has started a Blog for his company. Charlie is happy for Kathleen referring a client to him. Don is happy about Lee’s return. Nobuko is $10 happy for her lovely twin grandchildren (both sets). Mary is happy for the Tradeway sale and the $$ he saved. Lee is happy about the Tradeway sale and suggested acknowledge Joe in someway when the store closes. Jack is happy for Marty’s table hopping to get to know other Rotarians.

Sgt at Arms: Was on duty and played the last installment of El Cerrito Rotary history and classification. It all hinged on Mike G’s answers at the end and as usually happens the Sgt won out as did the club with the $$$ collected.

Today’s Program:
Gary B introduced today’s speaker Rotarian Mike G to facilitate a discussion about the current economic issues from his perspective of a small business owner. There were a lot of ideas and thought expressed about the current situation. Mike is a very dedicated small business owner and built his business from a one man operation to it current level of operation. It was a good opportunity for people to express their opinions about what is currently happening in our country.

Mike Gonzalez facilitates his presentation on the US economy

Thanks Mike for having the courage to present this topic to your fellow Rotarians!

Today’s Lottery Winner: Gary A had his ticket pulled for a chance at winning the pot and selected cats-eye marble winning the bottle of win.  Next Week the pot is worth $155.

Interact Corner by Gary Buffon – Rotary Advisor to Interact
The Camp Royal and Camp Venture participants are being chosen this week. Stay tuned for the names. Next week at Rotary there will three of our Interact club members presenting their 4-Way Test presentations to our club. This is one of the high points of the year so bring a guest so they can enjoy this special presentation.
